Directorate of Research and Graduate Studies

Tangaza University College set up the Directorate of Postgraduate Studies and Research (DPGRS) in 2017 with the order to organize research and postgraduate examinations exercises of the University. The Directorate has two divisions, specifically Research Department and Postgraduate Studies Department. The Postgraduate Department is answerable for organizing applications, confirmations, enrollment, assessments, graduations and other postgraduate exercises of the University College.

This Department has two crucial standing committees, to be specific: Postgraduate Studies Committee and the Doctoral Committee. The Postgraduate Studies Committee arranges the running of a Masters of Education, Master of Arts in Social Transformation, Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology, Master of Arts in African Studies, Master of Arts in Spirituality and Religious Formation, Master of Business Administration in Social Entrepreneurship, Master of Arts in Organizational Ethics and Leadership (proposed) and Postgraduate Diploma in Education (proposed) and a Doctor of Philosophy in Social Transformation. Then again, the Research Department is answerable for the general organization of research exercises of the University College. It organizes and screens research exercises in the University College. This office has two standing Committees, in particular: University Research Committee and Institutional Ethics Review Committee.

Departments

The Directorate of Postgraduate Studies and Research (DPGRS) vision fixates on greatness in research and postgraduate investigations in Tangaza University College. It is headed by the Director who facilitates, screens and manages its activities.

Postgraduate Studies Department

The Postgraduate Studies Department arranges every single postgraduate action of the University from admission to graduation. It manages endorsement of projects, ad, enrolment, and assessments up to graduation. The Graduate Studies Department works related to the Schools’s Deans and postgraduate program pioneers who are helped by Administrative Assistants. The Graduate Studies Department is going by the Director who is helped by an Administrative Assistant and different committee members.

Postgraduate Studies Department

The vision of the Postgraduate Studies Department is to be a focal point of greatness in postgraduate examinations and enormously add to the dispersal of new information locally and globally. The Postgraduate Studies Department is guided in its tasks by the Academic Board (Senate) which is the most noteworthy basic leadership organ on postgraduate investigations of the University College. It’s center capacity is to superintend over every single postgraduate programme beginning from admission to graduation of candidates, endorsement of new projects and giving postgraduate studies strategy direction to Schools through the Postgraduate Studies Committee to which it is a directorate.

Duties of the Postgraduate Studies Committee

The Postgraduate Committee has oversight over every postgraduate programme of the University College in all issues relating to the nature of teaching, research and their conveyance. (There is a different Committee for Research, which has a different strategy). The obligations of the Postgraduate Studies Committee incorporate, yet not constrained to, the accompanying:

  1. Acting as the entrance advisory board for every single postgraduate program;
  1. Overseeing the improvement of new postgraduate projects and the modification of existing projects, and prescribing such projects to the Academic Board/Senate for endorsement;
  1. Recommending the choice of employees for the postgraduate projects to the Academic Board/Senate;

  1. Proposal of monetary approaches appropriate to postgraduate programs;
  1. Overseeing of the benchmarking of the postgraduate programs against those of companion foundations;

Functions

Research Department

The vision of the Research Department is to be a focal point of greatness in managing research and extraordinarily add to the spread of new information locally and universally.

The Research Department is answerable for the general organization of the examination projects of the University and is guided in its activities by the University Research Committee. This Department fills in as a connection between the University College and other research establishments and industry. This Department is going by the Director (Research), helped by the Chair of the Research Committee, Chair of the Institutional Ethics Review Committee, and an Administrative Assistant. The Department encourages to look into exercises in the University College related to the School Deans and Research Project Coordinators of Institutes/Departments from the three Schools of Tangaza University College.

Functions

The functions of the research department include but not limited to:

  • Disseminating research findings through multi-disciplinary journals, seminars, symposia, and DPGSR websites briefing
  • Fostering ethical compliance in research
  • Facilitating affiliation of international research fellows
  • Providing funding opportunities
  • Coordinating research projects
  • Creating linkages with other academic and research, and relevant industry

Multidisciplinary Journals

Tangaza University College through the Directorate of Research and Postgraduate Studies publishes three multidisciplinary Journals to facilitate publication of research findings especially for postgraduate students and faculty in the University College.

The Journals which are open to students, members of staff and the general public are:

  1. African Journal of Social Transformation (AJST), catering for the Arts and Social Sciences group, Chief Editor, Rev. Dr. Fr. Giusseppe Caramazza, mccj.
  2. Tangaza Journal of Theology and Mission (TJTM) catering for Theology, Mission, Ministry, and Philosophy group. Chief Editor, Rev. Prof. Steven Payne, ocd.
  3. African Journal of Educational Research and Scholarship catering for the School of Education, physical sciences, natural sciences, and religious studies group. Cheif Editor, TBA.

Dissemination Seminars

Tangaza University College through the Directorate of Postgraduate Studies and Research holds Postgraduate Seminars (Oral and Poster) on a monthly basis within the year at which faculty staff and postgraduate students present their research findings.

Through DPGRS, TUC has a site tagged ‘research’ which leads to the main research site at www.tangaza.ac.ke/research which addresses research issues at the institution.

Research Symposia and conferences

Every year the Tangaza University College holds a number of School Research Symposia/conference to show case research outputs of particular School/Department. The Directorate contributes to the School/Department symposium’s budget.

Research Ethics

Research Ethics Committee

There is an Institutional Ethics Review Committees which is charged with the responsibility of reviewing research proposals for research ethical compliance. The mandate of this committee is not restricted to Tangaza University College researchers but also covers collaborative research with other institutions.
