Our Vision
African Churches have rediscovered their roots and the churches‘ African heritage is highlighted.
The CHD has become a known resource on African Church History and contributes to giving Church History in Africa a proper place. Apart of teaching general History of the Church, the CHD has developed a decidedly African perspective on Church History. The CHD is informing the present and future theology and structures of the African Catholic Church, inside and outside of the African context.
CHD establishes a focal area on the history of the Catholic Church in Kenya, East Africa and Africa at large.
CHD becomes a hub for teaching and research on the History of Churches in dialogue with society and other religions (Islam and ATR). Build the capacity and knowledge base of the African Church in Church History by contributing to the training of African religious actors, future priests, women religious, lay people and others. Research of the CHD contributes to the global writing of Church History and highlights African additions to Christianity. CHD is a dynamic actor to spread knowledge about Church History to different parts of the society and churches. CHD builds the capacity of Church History in the region by forming future church historians.
