The Tangaza Annual Summer School on Islam and Christianity in Dialogue in Africa (TASSICDA) is a joint programme organized by the Tangaza Institute for Interreligious Dialogue and Islamic
Studies (IRDIS) and the International Institute for Islamic Studies (IIIS) of Qom in Iran. The Summer programme lasts for three weeks and is hosted by IRDIS. This year was the third edition after two years of interruption because of Covid 19.

Hans Kung once said: "e; There will be no peace among the nations without peace among the religions. There will be no peace among the religions without dialogue between the religions. There will be no dialogue between the religions without investigation of the foundation of the religions.”
The 2022 edition brought together participants from Iran, England, Italy, Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya. They came from different denominations within Islam as well as within
Christianity. The facilitators also came different religious background to reflect the
interreligious and ecumenical character of the Summer School.

The participants explored and investigated together the foundations of each other’s religious tradition accompanied by dialogues exercises in a fraternal atmosphere while listening to each other. Other topics such as Religion and Politics, Interreligious Dialogue for peacebuilding and Social Cohesion, Genderand Interreligious Dialogue, Trauma Healing and Religion were discussed. Participants had also the opportunity to share in each other’s liturgical celebrations.

On Fridays Christians accompanied their Muslims brothers and siters top the Mosque while Muslims accompanied their Christian brothers and sisters to the Church on Sundays.
TASSICDA is a unique programme which has attracted more interest. Numbers of participants are likely to grow next year international institutions joining the programme which aims at
positively influencing the mindset of students and future leaders from diverse religious backgrounds. There is a transformation process which goes on through the three-weeks of summer school.

It is a unique experience. On the last Dr Shomali founder and director of the International Institute for Islamic studies gave a public lecture on the theme: “Unity of God,
Unity in God.”
At the end the Summer School the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Apollinaire Chishugi addressed the participants with these words: “Given the multiple conflicts in the region, but also globally, the
need for intensive dialogue is more important than ever before. Religion has been a contributing factor in violent conflicts. However, the core of Religion is peaceful and we should
make use of Religion as a bridge builder and be multiplier for this message of peace.

Because you as religious people and leaders have a unique level of access and influence in matters of social development, peacebuilding and mediation. So, use this power to embrace Religion as a
way for inclusion and living together in harmony.” Next year Summer School will take place from May 21 st to June 9 th , 2023.
