The Programme is geared towards the preparation of professionals in Counseling Psychology for the purposes of helping the youth and families.

In the Specialization of Youth Counselling Graduates of this course are able to :

  • Analyse issues and challenges affecting the mental health of children, adolescents and young people.
  • Have skills required of a professional Youth Counsellor.
  • Apply professional counselling skills in educative, social, cultural and other settings.
  • Identify the psychological pressures and implications faced by the young and design appropriate interventions.
  • Utilize current techniques and strategies in managing counselling and therapy units for individuals and groups.

In the Specialization of Marriage and Family Counselling

Graduates of this course are able to :

  • Analyse issues and challenges affecting couples and families in present-day society.
  • Apply professional counselling skills to work with couples and in family, social and cultural settings;
  • Prepare young people with relevant moral, ethical and relational skills as they seek to enter into marriage and family commitments;
  • Apply scientific methods to mental health issues and challenges faced by persons within the marriage and family unit and suggest appropriate interventions;
  • Utilise current techniques and strategies in managing marriage and family counselling and therapy units.

Requirements

  • KCSE mean grade of C Plus or a Diploma in any field Or a Diploma in the same field
