Share:

In 2023, Tangaza University’s Institute of Social Communication was selected as a key participant in UNESCO’s Excellence in Journalism Education in Africa initiative. The project, titled Strengthening Environmental Journalism, focuses on empowering future journalists to address environmental issues through ethical and impactful reporting. This initiative was generously funded by the Google News Initiative.

As part of the project, students at the Institute engage in activities such as environmental workshops, field reporting on topics like climate change and deforestation, and collaborations with environmental experts. These hands-on experiences enable students to develop the skills needed for responsible environmental journalism, as well as foster partnerships with local and international organizations.

The outcomes of this initiative were showcased at the prestigious International Journalism Festival (IJF) in Perugia, Italy, in April 2024. This presentation highlighted Tangaza University’s role in promoting excellence in journalism education, preparing students to report accurately and ethically on some of Africa’s most pressing environmental challenges.
