Welcome to Tangaza University (TU) Library.

The library serves as an auxiliary to its parent institution in carrying out its objectives. It plays a pivotal role in providing information sources and services to its users. As an academic library, TU library remains to be an integral part of the university, always striving to meet the information needs of students, staff, researchers and other users in the community.

TU library provides a wide range of information sources and resources from print to electronic. The library boasts of a large collection of latest print books that are relevant to the courses and programmes offered. Similarly, the library provides users with print journals that cover various relevant disciplines. TU library is a member of the Kenya Library and Information Services Consortium (KLISC), through which it subscribes to thousands of electronic resources. These databases give access to scholarly peer-reviewed articles. Library users are therefore requested to maximize the use of these information sources and resource.

Furthermore, the library offers various services including, reading space, circulation of information materials, research and interlibrary loaning. As a user, you are welcome to take advantage of these services. TU library will endeavour to be your closest partner in your academics.

Mary Immaculate Library (Main Library)

It is located in the basement of Imani building. It contains a collection of books, voluminous reference books, and other reference print resources.

Nuru Library

It is in located in Nuru building. It contains a collection of periodicals, journals, and audio-visual materials.

MIAS Library

This is a library with a specialized Africana collection under a closed access library system under the Maryknoll Institute of African Studies.

NB: Admission to the Library will be permitted only upon presentation of a valid Student or Staff Identity card.

Library Membership
Membership is open to all registered students, members of the faculty and staff of Tangaza University College. Amani Counselling Centre, Embulbul Counselling Centre, and KRIC consortium libraries may also use the libraries and borrow according to their own arrangements. Alumni and visitors (including academic staff and research students from other institutions) may use the library upon the payment of Ksh. 2000. However, they are not allowed to borrow.

In-house rules

  1. Wear your lanyard with your ID at all times.
  2. Leave all bags (including laptop bags), and bulky overcoats or jackets at the security counter.
  3. Library security and staff are entitled to search any person entering or leaving any Tangaza library.
  4. Food and drinks (including water) are not allowed in the library.
  5. Silence is a must in all libraries at all times in order to be able to concentrate and research in peace.  Therefore conversations and mobiles are not appropriate.  Switch off your mobile phone before entering a Tangaza library. Answering your mobile in the library will incur a ban of ONE MONTH (even at exam time….).  Please let us have a real working atmosphere in the libraries. We all know that some calls are urgent/important.  But this is not an excuse for answering your mobile in the Library….  Choose somewhere else to wait.
  6. Personal laptopsmay be used in the libraries – however the college management is not responsible for damage or loss of any laptop or other personal item.  Please take care of your belongings.
  7. If you lose or damage a library item, a new copymust be bought at your own expense, either by yourself, or through the college (a substantial down payment will be requested to cover the cost, together with postage and administration fees – any surplus will be refunded when the item arrives).
  8. Library users caught stealing or damaging Tangaza College books or other property will be reported to the Tangaza College Disciplinary Committee.
  9. Photocopying Copyright rules apply: do not photocopy more than a small section of a book.
  10. Access to the Library, Admission to the Library will be permitted only upon presentation of a valid Student or Staff Identity card.

 

Library resources rules

Users may download, save, or print reasonable portions of text, search results, and other information from the library’s online resources for studying, teaching, and/or research purposes.

  1. DO NOT share your library login and passwords to online resources with unauthorized users or any other person.
  2. DO NOT use robots, spiders, or other automated programmes to download electronic resources;
  3. DO NOT use online resources for commercial purposes;
  4. DO NOT sell text, search results, or other information in any form or medium;
  5. DO NOT post information retrieved or downloaded from online resources to a website, or to an email list.
  6. DO NOT redistribute information from online resources to unauthorized users.
  7. Accounts are assigned to individuals. Users are solely responsible for all functions performed from the accounts assigned to them. Do not allow others to use your account. Users should not attempt to crack, guess and/or capture another person’s computer password.

Acquisition Policy
The library’s collection is aimed at supporting the College’s instructional programs. To that end, the library will acquire materials according to the following priorities;
To support the curriculum and provide materials relevant to the courses offered by the colleges
To support faculty and institutional research

Support for in-depth faculty and institutional research may not always be possible through material acquisition. Consequently, the library has an interlibrary program.

Collection Development Policy
Collection development refers to the process of building and maintaining the library’s collection. The collection development policy establishes the principles used by Tangaza University Library in the selection, acquisition, evaluation, and maintenance of information resources in print and non-print formats.

The primary goal of Tangaza University Library’s collection development efforts is to build a collection that supports the needs of all users. The library also recognizes its responsibility to respond to the research needs of the faculty and provide access to specialized information sources. Therefore, the library participates in and encourages resource sharing agreements with other libraries.

Circulation Policy
Circulation policies and regulations of Tangaza University Library exist to facilitate user’s access to the materials and information in the library’s collection while protecting the same collection.

To check your work for plagiarism, write an email to antiplagiarism@tangaza.ac.ke and wait for feedback on your assignment within 1 business day depending on the volume of submissions

Can I renew my books online?

Yes. Log into your library account through the OPAC (catalogue) page. The books that you have checked out will automatically be displayed. Check inside the boxes under renew button for the books you wish renewed then proceed to the ‘renew checked items’ button.

Go to the website (www.tangaza.ac.ke), click on Portal, then on Off-campus Access. Fill in your user name and password (the same as on Moodle). In this way you access the Tangaza University subscription. Going through Google when you are off-campus will involving paying for what you want.

In the OPAC, use the advanced search button where you will be able to select options for theses or long essays. Then key in the topic which you wish to search for. The results displayed will include the location where the research project is stocked.

If it’s your first time to use Tangaza’s WIFI then go to the IT department at the cyber café where they will configure it to use the wireless settings.

After borrowing you are allowed a maximum of 2 times renewal and thereafter you have to return them to the library.

There are reference desks in each of the libraries otherwise known as help desk with a librarian who will help out or advise on the location of the library materials in question. If you need instruction on use of libraries and the resources please consult with the reference librarians so to book a date and time which will be suitable for training.

Please come with your student ID at the circulation desk in the main library where you will be registered immediately.
